Action Title in PowerPoint Presentation
Dr. Marcus Schütz’s has nearly 20 years of industry experience. He conducted a turn around program as Director of Strategic Planning and Change Management of Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Ltd . He also was an outstanding ex-employee of The Boston Consulting Group.
I have gained valuable experience in attending Dr. Marcus Schütz’s class. He was one of the very best Professors who are willing to share his tricks to create million-dollar consultant presentations. One of the very key things consultants do in their PowerPoint is the “action titles”.
An action title is a title that summarizes an entire slide. It usually contains a verb in it. Everyone should be able to understand your whole presentation simply by reading the action titles of your slide package.
Here are two action title examples:
- Instead of putting the word “ROI of the Year” as title, say something like “Revenue Increased by 100% from 2008 to 2009 with a ROI of 50%”.
- For the results of your analysis, summarize it using an action title. For the results of a SWOT analysis, say something like “Leading edge IT system and superior customer services with limited working capital”.
- Instead of putting the word “conclusion” at the end, try to summarize your findings or recommendation with an action title like “our recommendation: find a strategic partner”.
Generating action titles help you better organize your thoughts throughout your presentations. You simply won’t need as much time to memorize your ideas because your key points are already summarized as an action title. Furthermore, it helps the audience to easily grab the very key ideas in your slides. A lot of times, after a presenter talked about all their bullet points on the page, the separate pieces of information simply do not correlate. An action title helps you to prevent such problem.
