Case Study Showcase Approach in a Conference with Multiple Presenters

This presentation tip is in the category:  First-Class Key-Note Speaker Know-How Series

In order to become a first-class speaker, we should all master the various types of presentation skills and the case study showcase skill is one of them. A successful case study showcase will help consolidate the entire conference. Here is a list of things you need to know before you use a case study in a conference:

Match with the overall conference

Make sure there are not too many case studies in a conference. Otherwise, the entire conference will have too many pieces of examples with no theories backed up. A conference needs a balance!

Ensure your case study builds on previous speakers’ messages

Doing a case-study showcase is like giving a long detailed example. If your case study does not align and build on ideas already presented by previous speakers, no one will understand what you are trying to say.

Ensure the speakers present after you refer back to your examples

This is not a must but this is nice to have. This action will make the overall conference look more organized. The overall message of the conference will be much stronger as well.

Not too commercialized

If you are a software company, do not showcase your own system. Otherwise, your presentation will be perceived as an advertising session. Everyone will be gone before you finish your talk. I remember listening to two HR system providers presenting in a HR conference: one talked about how they differentiate themselves with their people factors and then go on to talk about their employee retention strategies; the other talked about the HR system they are selling. Guess which one the audience like better?
