Daily Exercises to Increase Your Confidence as a Sales Professional

This presentation tip is in the category:  The Perfect Sales Presentation Series

I had the opportunity to read a bestseller called Be a Sales Superstar: 21 Great Ways to Sell More, Faster, Easier in Tough Markets written by Brian Tracy.  I found some of the suggested exercises to increase a salesperson’s self-image very useful.  I think we should all do them everyday so that we can all look confident and professional in sales presentations.

I have summarized below some of the exercises to increase your confidence suggested by Brian Tracy:

Mirror Talk

In front of a mirror, repeatedly say the following statements to yourself:

“I can do it”
“I am very capable”
“I like myself.  I am the best”
“I like myself.  I love my work”

After you are familiar with the flow, you can mentally go through these statements several times in the day.

Fake it before You Make It Exercise

1. Think of the elements you were lacking to successfully close your sales in the past.
2. Imagine you have already got those elements.
3. Ask yourself how would you act differently?
4. Memorize that ending self-image and behaviours.
5. From now on, mentally pretend you have already had those elements before you enter a sales presentation.

Product Passion Exercise

1. Imagine your products or services have the highest quality in the world.
2. Imagine you are selling your products or services at the lowest price in the whole market.
3. Now, imagine how you would act differently in a sales presentation.

Sales Presentation Best Practice Exercise

1. Imagine you are the best salesperson in the world.
2. Imagine you are being video tapped for every sales presentation and being shown as best practices.
3. Every time before you enter a sales presentation, recall these feeling and behaviours.
